At only 25 he's a bit younger than I'd like, although Christopher Reeve was only 26 when he made the first Superman, so Routh can certainly grow into the role. The age thing will have one strange side effect -- the actor playing Superman as an adult in the movie will be younger than the actor playing Superman as a teenager on television (Tom Welling is 27). Still, I'm pleased with this casting. Now comes the all-important casting of Lois Lane and Lex Luthor. I don't think it's going to happen, but I'm still holding out for Selma Blair as Lois Lane. Although I must say, as absurd as her presence on the show has been, I'm sort of liking Erica Durance as Lois on Smallville. The role is silly as can be, but she plays it well.

I am very disappointed with the casting and I believe you will find a similar response from all the Smallville fans. If Smallville continues it's strong ratings as it has in the past Tom Welling will be considered by the vast majority to be Superman. Then you introduce a new unknown face. Why would you intentionally divide your market. It sounds like a very risky and ill conceived plan.

It sounds like you wouldn't be satisfied with *any* casting of the role.
Smallville's not superman, it's Smallville. They've changed the mythology so much at this point that it stands completely on its own. I don't want a smallville movie, i want a superman movie. The two can exist side-by-side.

Much as I love Tom Welling (and we all know I love him very much :)), I have to say I wouldn't want him playing Superman unless he were significantly older and more polished. He's a great teenage Clark Kent but I don't think I could take him seriously as a "grownup" Clark, even though he is 27 years old now. That could actually ruin the show, come to think of it. We'd all see the movie, then we wouldn't be able to accept him playing a teenager on tv after that.

What about Patrick Warburton? I don't understand how anybody else could have been cast for this role. Brandon Routh is a Regularman not Superman. Patrick Warburton is built huge like Superman is supposed to be. Jerry Seinfeld got it, he always cast Warburton whnever he needed Superman in any of his stuff. I just think that they should have gotten somebody larger. What's wrong with everybody?

Whether or not Superman is supposed to be built huge is entirely an individual preference. Personally, I prefer a slimmer, less enormous Superman, as was depicted in the previous movies, the Curt Swan comics and even the very first Superman comics. Superman's strength comes from the sun, not his physical stature, so it's entirely up to the director/artist as to how to depict him.
I can't picture Warburton playing Superman in a serious film. He's much too goofy. Yeah, the Sienfeld/Superman comercials were entertaining, but they were intended to be humerous. Warburton's too much of a goofball to play Superman in anything else.
...but that's just my opinion.
